UPPER HALLWAY
The main upper living area of the residence, this east-west hallway
opens onto a number of rooms including the master suite. The hall is decorated along
its	length with	a variety of paintings and small sculptures, and includes several cozy
		alcoves	within dormers unevenly spaced
on either side. A large velvet painting of a 19th	century naval battle sits on the wall
about halfway down, near the threshold to the gallery. And just across the way is a
		wide, panelled door.
The walls are beadboard and beautifully wallpapered plaster; the floor is carpeted oak.
There is a curious looking at the east end of the hall, just beyond the guest rooms, and a rope net ladder leading up to a
hatch in the ceiling. A set of stairs
at the west end leads down. On the wall across from the stairs is a small, square chute.
